As we actively aim to provide quality sex education and healthcare to communities of all backgrounds, we need to fully understand the systemic origins of current health disparities experienced by people of color. Serving as an effective youth-serving adult involves acknowledging your role in the inequitable outcomes for students of color. We will examine the historical context for the current medical mistrust, how present-day healthcare delivery contributes to medical bias, the value of cultural humility, and programs aimed to support these communities. We challenge youth-serving adults to reflect on the messages they communicate to better promote dignity in accessing care.
